Year 3

Friday 25th September

Dear Parent / Carers

This week we started our new 'We are Historians' topic. We have been using a lovely book called 'Stone Age Boy' to inspire our children's writing. We have been focusing on sentence structure and all the grammatical elements of a sentence (noun, adjective, verb, adverb etc). Please check the English Knowledge Organiser if you would like more detail about this. We have been investigating rocks in Science, which included a great talk by our resident Year 3 geologist, Mrs Manning.

On Monday, we will set new homework. We will be expecting children to complete their homework in one week. Hopefully this will be easier, now that you have familiarised yourself with the websites and logins etc. Please let us know if you are struggling with homework. We don't want it to be a burden on you or your children and we can adjust things if it's not working. Please check Seesaw for all the details.

This week Ash and Elm have been using Kung-Fu punctuation to help their children remember the important punctuation they can use. Please check out the following video for more details.

Please be aware that our Stone Age workshops have been moved back a week and will now take place just before half term on either the 22nd or the 23rd TBC.

Finally, next week is the 'Reading is Magic Festival'. We will be using workshops from this online festival to celebrate reading and get our children enthused about various authors and books. The festival starts on Sunday and there is a workshop at 4pm. Details are in the following website.

Have a lovely weekend.

Friday 18th September

Dear Parent / Carers

We have had another excellent week in Year 3. The children are all working hard and enjoying their learning. Please remember that there will be a spelling test on Monday 21st and we will be checking Home School Organisers for a completed reading record. All other homework needs to be completed by September 28th. Please the homework link on the blue tab opposite.

We hope to send home reading band books next week. Please read the accompanying letter carefully when your child brings their book home. If you have any queries about reading please contact your class teacher.

Next week, we start our new Stone Age topic. Please read the new topic web and the new knowledge organisers that have been loaded on to this Year 3 area of the website.

Have a great weekend.

The Year 3 Team

Monday 14th September

Dear Parents / Carers

Our Year 3 children have settled in extremely well as a group. Their behaviour has been excellent and the Year 3 team have been really impressed with their attitudes to learning.

From Monday 14th September, we will be setting homework. As there is quite a bit to process we are giving the children two weeks to complete their first set of homework. (We will still be expecting reading to take place every week and the first spelling test will take place on Monday 21st September). Please visit the homework link in the blue side bar next to this text for full details. There will be lots of details in this link so please read it carefully.  The links for homework will be in the Homework section and on the Seesaw app. Please take time to watch the videos I have loaded onto the 'Home Learning and Seesaw' page that explain how to operate Seesaw. The children have all used it this week and hopefully they will be able to teach you how to use it!

Because of COVID we cannot meet you personally this week for the 'Meet the Teacher' session. Therefore we have created a video presentation that has been published in the 'Year 3 Expectations' section of the website. This will be full of useful information about the year 3 expectations. Please take time to watch the 30 minute presentation.

We realise that this is a busy time for you and your children. If you require any guidance about your child's learning in the next few weeks, please contact your teacher. - Oak Class teacher - Head of Year 3 - Elm Class teacher - Ash Class Teacher
