'Zones of Regulation'

One of our school values is dignity.  At Horsell Junior School we believe that every member of our school family should be treated with dignity and respect.  We therefore aim to support our children when they might be finding it difficult to manage their emotions.

For children:

We all need a break sometimes and it is important to recognise our feelings and needs. You can use your knowledge of the Zones and how it works in the classroom to bring into your home should you need it.

These are the zones of regulation. They identify zones for our feelings. Everyone feels these emotions at different times. People aren't bad if they feel these emotions. We need to try and 'regulate' these so they don't impact negatively on our lives and others' lives. You could set up your own Zones of regulation at home. You will need:

  • A calm, quite space
  • Something to help you calm down (colouring, reading, mediating, having a drink, fresh air)
  • A timer (to know when to go back to your learning)

Ask your teacher if you would like help setting up your Zones of Regulation at home.
