Times Tables
The importance and requirement of being fluent in Times Tables has increased greatly and it is now a requirement for all children when they reach the end of Year 4 to sit a computerised and timed Times Table assessment. More information can be found here: Information for parents: multiplication tables check (publishing.service.gov.uk)
Times Tables can be used in a range of mathematical concepts and fluency within these key numbers facts can make the children’s mathematical learning more efficient and successful.
The breakdown below shows what Times Tables the children should know at the end of each year.
Year 2- 2, 5, 10
Year 3- retain the above and know 3, 4, 8
Year 4- recall all times table facts up to 12x12
At Horsell Junior School, to support the children with their learning of this, we use Times Table Rockstars for weekly homework and Early Morning Work.
Children in Years 3 and 4 complete the Times Table Mountain twice a week and children in Year 5 complete it once a week to ensure the children are retaining and recalling the key facts. In Year 6 children frequently visit multiplication skills in warm ups to Maths lessons and in test style questions.
We welcome any parent/ carer volunteers to help us support the children in rehearsing these key facts on a 1:1 level.
